STAGE one of Cleve Area School’s $4.3 million upgrade is complete with classes set to move in at the start of the school year.

The first stage of the upgrade included new classrooms and offices, which have now been furnished and are ready for students.

School principal Ray Marino said he was happy with how stage one had gone and was looking forward to seeing how the rest of the upgrade would come along.

He said next in line was making the old science labs into a new drama suites, which would be followed by landscaping and upgrading the grounds.

“There is landscaping happening now with some lawn to be planted but so far so good,” he said.

Mr Marino said throughout the planning stages the school had worked hard to make sure the classrooms were interactive and was happy with the results.

“There will be a few things here and there that we might have to iron out once we get into the classrooms but we will just have to wait and see.”

“All the classrooms are standard but they have smart televisions and all the technology they need now.”

He said it would be interesting to see how the teachers and students would interact in their new middle and secondary school environment.

“I will enjoy seeing how things go when everyone moves into the space and all the classes are in the same space.

“It is going to really feel like a school,” he said.

Mr Marino said he had taken the students through the building for a look at the end of the school year in 2014 and said they were excited to get into their new classrooms.

“It will be refreshing I think, all of the specialist subjects like drama and music will still be separate but it all flows together.”

He said the school had worked hard to get the most out of the $4.3 million upgrade.

“As always when you get a certain amount of money you always think what you could do with more but all in all we are really pleased.”

“We are lucky to have the opportunity and we are all looking forward to putting the space to good use,” he said.
